Grenville at once published a pamphlet entitled ‘Sir Richard Grenville's Single Defence against all aspersions (in the power or aim) of all malignant persons, and to satisfy the contrary,’ containing an autobiographical account of his life, services, and sufferings (reprinted in Lansdowne's ‘Works,’ i. 544-56).
Richard Grenville died at sea of his wounds on 2 September 1591. His son Bernard did not receive the administration of his estate until February 1593; there may have been some difficulty about verifying his death, or a dispute over his inheritance.
