Robert Adam has designed new country houses, landmark public and commercial buildings, and leisure buildings. He was one of the pioneers of contextual urban design and pioneered objective design coding. He has designed furniture as well as individual and original architectural features, interiors and pavilions.
Lansdowne House, designed by Robert Adam and situated at the southwest corner of Berkeley Square, London, was begun for Prime Minister John Stuart, third earl of Bute, who sold it, unfinished, about 1765 to William Petty-Fitzmaurice (1737–1805), earl of Shelburne, later first marquess of Lansdowne and a leading Whig statesman of the period.

Robert Adam designed and built a number of romantic neo-Gothic castles, mostly dating from the 1780s, in Scotland. The most important of these is Culzean (1777–92), Ayrshire, for the earls of Cassilis. Another neo-Gothic work is the interior of Alnwick Castle (c. 1770–80; destroyed in the 19th century), Northumberland.

29 de may. de 2018 · Robert Adam was born on July 3, 1728, at Kirkcaldy, Fifeshire, Scotland. James Adam was born in Edinburgh on July 21, 1730. They were the second and third sons of William Adam (1689-1748), a prominent Scottish architect. There were two other sons—John, the oldest of the children, and William—and six daughters.
