Lady Fellowes es la segunda hija de John Spencer, VIII conde de Spencer (1924–1992) y la Honorable Frances Roche (1936–2004). Sus padres se casaron en 1954 pero se divorciaron en 1969. Siempre ha usado su segundo nombre, Jane (como también su hermana mayor uso uno de sus segundos nombres). Uno de sus padrinos es Eduardo de Kent.
