Hace 3 días · These premises were designed as an architectural entity in stone by Sir Robert Smirke in 1824–27. The principal front of the College is in Pall Mall East and comprises a hexastyle portico of Ionic columns, Smirke's favourite order, which support a pediment (Plate 80b).

Designed by architect Sir Robert Smirke, and built between 1822 to 1824, St Philip’s is now home to the vibrantNew Winebranch and congregation, with a regular programme of events and activities.
Hace 6 días · On 22 February 1816 the newly established committee of naval and military members appointed (Sir) Robert Smirke to be the architect for the proposed permanent club-house. (fn. 30) The New Street was then in course of construction, and on 14 May the committee decided to accept the plot at the corner of Charles Street on which the first clubhouse was later built.
