The subsoil is composed of the Inferior and Great Oolite series and the surface soil varies. The land has a gradual fall from about 400 ft. above the Ordnance datum in the west to 300 ft. in the east of the parish.

Some land in Great Busby must have been granted to Robert de Brus; the overlordship followed that of Faceby (q.v.). Jenkins.

E. division of Tindale ward, S. division of Northumberland, 12½ miles (W. by S.) from Morpeth; containing 167 inhabitants. The township consists of 1781 acres, of which 664 are arable, 954 pasture, and 163 woodland.
