Hace 3 días · The grant to Roger seems to have been for life only, for in 1154–5 Henry de Essex, the sheriff, was accounting for the manor of Bayford as well as for the farm of the borough of Hertford. (fn. 7) The terms 'manor,' 'borough' and 'vill' are used interchangeably at this date when the whole of the lordship is meant.

It was valued in 1291 at £7 6s. 8d. The profits of the rectory, then leased to Alfred Baxter, were returned as £22 yearly in 1535.
