Samuel Ealy Johnson Sr. (November 12, 1838 – February 25, 1915) was an American politician, businessman, farmer, rancher, and namesake of Johnson City, Texas. He was the grandfather of U.S. president Lyndon B. Johnson.

Samuel Ealy Johnson Sr. was born on November 12, 1838, in Wedowee, Alabama. He was the paternal grandfather of Lyndon B. Johnson and was the tenth child of Lucy Webb (Barnett) and Jess Johnson. He was raised a Baptist , but he later became a member of the Christian Church .
Confederate veteran Samuel Ealy Johnson, Sr., and his wife Eliza Bunton Johnson—Lyndon Johnson's grandparents—settled here in 1867. From this 960-acre ranch, Sam and his brother Tom drove cattle north on the Chisholm Trail, amassing in the process a large but fleeting fortune.
Johnson was partly influenced in his attitude towards the Jews by the religious beliefs that his family, especially his grandfather (Samuel Ealy Johnson, Sr.) who was a member of the Christadelphian church, shared with him.
