The Brazilian had vacated his WEC title to join the UFC less than 12 months earlier, but lost to Sherk, whose post-fight drug test came back positive, seeing him stripped of the belt.
4 de may. de 2024 · At UFC 42: Sudden Impact, Hughes faced future UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk, winning via unanimous decision. Hughes started the action by taking Sherk down immediately, passing to half guard. Sherk was able to stand for a few seconds before Hughes took him down again.

Sherk was stripped off the title in December 2007 after he was tested positive for anabolic steroids. BJ Penn became the next champion on 19 January 2008.
