Las islas Shetland (también conocidas como Setelanda en español arcaico; [2] en escocés: Shetland; en gaélico escocés: Sealtainn; en nórdico antiguo: Hjaltland) son un grupo de islas del Atlántico Norte situadas entre las islas Feroe, la costa del suroeste de Noruega y la isla de Gran Bretaña.

Shetland, also called the Shetland Islands, is an archipelago in Scotland lying between Orkney, the Faroe Islands, and Norway. It is the northernmost region of the United Kingdom. The islands lie about 80 km (50 mi) to the northeast of Orkney, 170 km (110 mi) from mainland Scotland and 220 km (140 mi) west of Norway.

- Fair Isle. La más remota de las Shetland es un importante destino ornitológico. Sus acantilados son un refugio para miles de aves marinas.
- Mainland. En la isla principal del archipiélago abundan los pueblos marineros, fundados en torno al comercio del arenque. A la derecha, Waas.
- Sumburgh. Esta población del sur de Mainland tiene una de las playas más intactas de la isla. Cerca se halla el sitio arqueológico de Jarlshof.
- Fauna marina. Las Shetland son un paraíso para la observación de la fauna marina que habita en el norte de Europa. Lo que más abundan son las aves –de las 24 especies que anidan en Gran Bretaña, 21 se encuentran en estas islas–, pero también hay que estar atentos a sus aguas donde suelen nadar nutrias, focas, orcas y otros cetáceos.
