Shrewsbury School is a public school (English fee-charging boarding school for pupils aged 13 –18) in Shrewsbury. It was founded in 1552 by Edward VI by Royal Charter, to reconstitute the town's collegiate foundations of the 6th and 10th centuries which were disestablished in the reformation.

Founded by Royal Charter in 1552, Shrewsbury School is one of the 'great' nine schools in England identified by the Clarendon Commission of 1861. Over the centuries it has grown in size and reputation and is now ranked amongst the leading co-educational boarding schools in the world, educating some 800 pupils aged 13-18 years.
Shrewsbury School was founded by Edward VI in 1552 by Royal Charter and for over 470 years we have a proud legacy as one of the great public schools in England. Below is a small insight into the development of Shrewsbury through the centuries.
