Sigvard (1907-2002) was Prince of Sweden (from birth) and Duke of Uplandia (Uppland) until 1934. He was also a noted designer as Sigvard Bernadotte.He was created Prince Bernadotte and Count of Wisborg in the nobility of Luxembourg in 1951.
Sigvard studied at Lundbergs school and in1926 became the first of the Bernadotte family to earn a bachelor’s degree. The same year he enrolled in the Uppsala University. An avid reader, he indulged himself in numerous books, especially those about the history of art and politics.

Rosti now had a bowl that united function, quality and design. Named after a niece. In 1950 the bowl went into production. Some years later, Sigvard Bernadotte wanted to give it a special name. Bernadotte was the son of the Swedish King Gustav VI Adolf, the brother of the Danish Queen Ingrid and thus the uncle of Princess Margrethe.

Bernadotte’s ubiquitous 1957 Virrvarr pattern has been used on everything from countertops and cutting boards to blankets from Sassabrassa to American floors by Formica. From an early age, young Sigvard was influenced by his great uncle, Prince Eugén. His great uncle was recognized as much as an artist as a member of the royal family.
