Sigrid "Siri" Sofia Matilda Elisabet von Essen (17 August 1850 – 21 April 1912) was a Swedish-speaking Finnish noblewoman and actress. Her acting career spanned about 15 years, during which time she appeared in a number of plays that the Swedish dramatist and writer August Strindberg wrote specifically for her.

Siri von Essen and Marie Caroline David. It caused a scandal when August Strindberg's (1849-1912) wife Siri von Essen (1850–1912) developed a close relationship with the Danish author Marie Caroline David (1865-1897). The two women's relationship was opposed by both the norms of society and the law.
Historically, Siri von Essen has been remembered mainly because of the effect she had on Strindberg and his work as an author. The marital problems and the effect they had on his works attracted attention already by their contemporaries. She is considered to be the inspiration for many of his works about marital- and love problems.
