Socrates Tuttle (November 19, 1819 – February 12, 1885) was the Mayor of Paterson, New Jersey, from 1871 to 1872. Biography. He was born on November 19, 1819, in Colebrook, New Hampshire, to Horatio Tuttle and Betsey Thomas. He had two children, Hobart Tuttle and Jennie Tuttle Hobart. He died of angina pectoris in 1885. Luego de haber estudiado en la Universidad Rutgers, estudió Derecho con Socrates Tuttle, un prominente abogado de Paterson, en el mismo estado. Se casó con su hija Jennie Tuttle Hobart, el 21 de julio de 1869. A pesar de haber concurrido a pocos tribunales, Hobart logró destacarse como un abogado corporativo y millonario.

After spending a short period as a schoolteacher to repay loans, Hobart studied law under a family friend, Socrates Tuttle, in Paterson, New Jersey. He earned his license in 1866, receiving his masters of chancery in 1872.
