A Capela de São Jorge ( Saint George's Chapel, em inglês) é o principal local de culto religioso do Castelo de Windsor [ 1]. A capela é dedicada ao santo padroeiro da Inglaterra e é considerada uma Royal Peculiar. Também serve como o principal templo da mais antiga e nobre ordem de cavalaria do Reino Unido, a Ordem da Jarreteira.
Read our blog St George's Chapel: the final resting place of monarchs. History of St George’s Chapel. St George’s Chapel is located on the north side of the Lower Ward of Windsor Castle. Work on the present chapel began when Edward IV was king, in 1475. The east end, or Quire (choir), was completed by 1484.
St. George’s Chapel is het klassieke voorbeeld van Engelse gotische architectuur met zijn loodrechte stijl. Tegen 1483 waren de koorbeuken en het dak voltooid. Dit werd gevolgd door een schip in 1496. De bouw van het gewelf duurde echter tot 1528 om af te maken. De kapel onderging restauratiewerkzaamheden tussen 1921 en 1930.
