Our History. In 1720 Captain John Gray, who had retired from the army, purchased a block of land close to the river in East Twickenham to build homes for ‘respectable citizens of Twickenham’. Montpellier Road, as he named it, was to have its own chapel and school, which would serve the householders and their families and staff.

St Stephen's C E Primary School is a Church of England primary school maintained by the local authority ( Richmond upon Thames ). It has about 420 boys and girls aged between 4 and 11.
