Stefan Czarniecki (Polish: [ˈstɛfan t͡ʂarˈɲɛt͡skʲi] of the Łodzia coat of arms, 1599 – 16 February 1665) was a Polish nobleman, general and military commander. In his career, he rose from a petty nobleman to a magnate holding one of the highest offices in the Commonwealth, something that was unprecedented in the Commonwealth's history.
The statue of Stefan Czarniecki stands just outside the fence of an area with military barracks in Komorowo. Inside the fence is a lane with on both sides monuments, dating from 1932 – 1934, portraying kings, hetmans and commanders of the November uprising. They are made of reinforced concrete. Stefan Czarniecki ( 1599 Czarnca – 16. února 1665 Sokolyvka) byl polský šlechtic a vojevůdce, polní hetman, vojvoda Ruského vojvodství v letech 1657–1664 a Kyjevského vojvodství v letech 1664–1665.

The garrison of Kraków, under Castellan Stefan Czarniecki and colonel of infantry Fromhold Wolff, consisted of some 5,000 men—soldiers of the regular army, plus city militia. In order to prepare the defense, Czarniecki burned the suburbs of Kleparz, Biskupie and Garbary, and constructed a system of earthworks.
