22 de abr. de 2024 · Homer is the presumed author of the Iliad and the Odyssey, two hugely influential epic poems of ancient Greece. If Homer did in fact compose the works, he is one of the greatest literary artists in the world, and, through these poems, he affected Western standards and ideas.
Hace 1 día · Starting in around 1928, Milman Parry and Albert Lord, after their studies of folk bards in the Balkans, developed the "Oral-Formulaic Theory" that the Homeric poems were originally composed through improvised oral performances, which relied on traditional epithets and poetic formulas.

They are called ‘Homeric’ because they are written in the same dialect and meter as the epic Homeric poems the Iliad and Odyssey.

His epic poems provided the basis of Greek education and are still important pieces of literature studied in both high school and college courses.
