She and her baby were hiding in the Alamo's chapel when Mexican troops bayoneted her husband and took the mission. Dickinson had come to Texas with her husband from Tennessee in 1831, when she was seventeen.

Believe it or not, surviving the siege of the Alamo and riding all over southern Texas with her baby searching for Sam Houston is not the most interesting part of Susanna Dickinson’s story.

  5. Hace 2 días · Just after 11 p.m. on March 13, Susanna Dickinson and Joe brought news that the Alamo garrison had been defeated and the Mexican army was marching towards Texian settlements. A hastily convened council of war voted to evacuate the area and retreat.

  6. 26 de abr. de 2024 · Women were among those inside the fort. Susanna Dickinson was one of them, along with her infant daughter. Her husband was a captain in charge of artillery at the Alamo. It was a decisive Mexican victory in which only about 14 Texans survived out of almost 200. Dickinson was one of the survivors.

We attended the monthly walk through on Wed, 7/29 and took a few photos. This will be the companion museum to the O Henry House right next door when it opens in late 2009.
