19 de ene. de 2012 · 5. The history of the Red Army Faction has recently drawn much international attention with the release of the movie “The Baader-Meinhof Complex” by director Uli Edel. The movie is based on the book Der Baader-Meinhof Komplex, Stefan Aust's authoritative account of the group.
From the USSR to Russia, the film examines how sport mirrors social and cultural movements and parallels the rise and fall of the Red Army team with the Soviet Union. RED ARMY is an inspiring story about the Cold War played out on the ice rink, and a man who stood up to a powerful system and paved the way for change for generations of Russians.

Red Army, Army of the Soviet Union. Formed in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution of 1917 , its first civilian leader was Leon Trotsky , who proved a brilliant strategist and administrator. Formed of workers and peasants, it initially lacked an officers’ corps, and Trotsky was forced to mobilize officers of the former imperial army until a new, politically reliable corps could be trained.
Starting on 16 April 1945, the Red Army breached the German front as a result of the Vistula–Oder offensive and rapidly advanced westward through Germany, as fast as 30–40 kilometres a day. The offensive culminated in the battle in Berlin , which lasted from late 20 April 1945 until 2 May and was one of the bloodiest battles in history .
