The Misunderstood were an American psychedelic rock band originating from Riverside, California in the mid-1960s. The band moved to London early in their career, and although they recorded only a handful of songs before being forced to disband, they are considered highly influential in the then-emerging genre.

In 1966 the Misunderstood, an ambitious anti-war rock band from small town California, set off on a mission to England. In swinging sixties London they forge a revolutionary new psychedelic sound, but on the very brink of international success the heart of the band is ripped out when their lead singer is drafted by the US Army.

The Misunderstood. More images. Profile: US/UK-Prog/Psychedelic band. They started out in Riverside, California in late 1963 as The Blue Notes, playing Surf music. After some comings and goings, they finally completed their line-up in 1965, changing their name to The Misunderstood.
