Edward Burgh was born in 1461 to Sir Thomas Burgh, 1st Baron Burgh in Lincolnshire and Margaret de Ros. He was knighted at Stoke Field in 1487. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Lord Burgh, of Gainsborough [E., 1487] on the death of his father in 1495, although he was never called to Parliament under this writ.

Biography. De Burgh was the second son of Richard Mór de Burgh, 1st Lord of Connaught and Egidia de Lacy. In 1243, he succeeded his father as Lord of Connacht. In a royal order from Westminster in September 1247, Sir John Fitzgeoffrey was charged by the king with seizing the lands of Walter de Burgh's older brother Richard, who had died.
