"Silken Thomas", briefly the 10th Earl of Kildare, was executed in Tyburn, London, at the age of 24, along with 5 of his paternal uncles, during the reign of Henry VIII. The failure of the uprising ended the Fitzgerald family’s hereditary viceroyalty of Ireland and led to the tightening of English control over the country.
