Dotato di una personalità poliedrica, unì agli studi militari lo studio della matematica pura e tradusse dal tedesco e dall’inglese fondamentali opere d’interesse geografico. Nel 1906 fu insegnante alla Scuola Centrale di tiro di Parma.
