The school is located within the Catholic Diocese of Shrewsbury. It was awarded 'Outstanding' by Ofsted in 2006, 2012 and again in 2022. The school holds Training School status. History. It was founded as a girls' convent school by Nuns of the Society of the Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ) in 1862.

Upton Hall School FCJ is a Roman Catholic Grammar School for girls aged 11-18. It is situated in the Diocese of Shrewsbury under the Trusteeship of the Society of the Faithful Companions of Jesus, FCJ. The school has academy status. We have more than 970 pupils, including 220 members of our flourishing Sixth Form.

Upton Hall School, FCJ, Upton As members of the Trust, we have been able to share and reap the benefits of many of the achievements and activities which the FCJ Educational Trust provide, including; Sharing of best practice to continue our support and deliver educational tools on mental health and resilience for students.
History. The school was founded in 1849. It was opened by the FCJ Sisters, a religious society founded in nineteenth century France by Marie Madeleine, a widow and mother who was passionate about education. At first the school was situated in Lingdale House but all that now remains is the sandstone wall in Lingdale Road.
