At that time Kartli was continually being invaded by the Persians from the south and by the Ossetians from the north.
Vakhtang Gorgasali is buried in Mtskheta, in Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. He has since been canonized as a saint by the Georgian Church. Bagrat III was the first king who was able to unite Georgia. He was active from 961 to 1014.
