24 de oct. de 2012 · The holy and right-believing Vakhtang I Gorgasali of Iberia was the king of Kartli (Iberia) during the second half of the fifth century and the the first quarter of the sixth. A firm Orthodox Christian, Vakhtang defended the Georgian lands against the incursions of the Persians and Ossetians and sponsored the attainment of autocephaly of the Church of Georgia .
Demetrius, born in 1259, was the second son and third child of King David VII of Georgia. His mother was David's third wife Gvantsa née Kakhaberidze. He was 2 years old when Gvantsa was put to death by the Mongols as a reaction to David's abortive rebellion against the Ilkhan hegemony. David himself died in 1270.

In 1295, he supported Baidu Khan in an internal conflict in the Ilkhanate. However, Baidu was killed and Ghazan became a khan.

In April 1801 Iulon and Parnaoz defied the order and fled to western Georgia, to the court of their sisterly nephew, King Solomon II of Imereti , [6] who had upheld Iulon's claim to the throne of Kartli and Kakheti.
