In 1791, he helped bring about the temporary reconciliation in western Georgia between his sisterly nephew King Solomon II of Imereti and his rival David II. [1] At the time when Anton became the catholicos, the Georgian Orthodox Church had been split into two separate patriarchates along the political divide, one for eastern Georgia and one for western Georgia.
Vakhtang married in Imereti, western Georgia, in 1696, a Circassian princess Rusudan (died in Moscow, 30 December 1740). They were the parents of: Princess Tamar (1696–1746) who married, in 1712, Prince Teimuraz , the future king of Kakheti and Kartli.

Vakhtang III (Georgian: ვახტანგ III; 1276–1308), of the Bagrationi dynasty, was the king of Georgia from 1302 to 1308. He ruled during the Mongol dominance of Georgia . A son of Demetrius II of Georgia by his Trapezuntine wife , Vakhtang was appointed, in 1302, by the Ilkhan Ghazan as a rival king to his brother David VIII , who had revolted against the Mongol rule.
