Under contract to Universal Pictures, Price traveled to Hollywood, making his screen debut in Service de Luxe (1938). By the 1960s, Vincent Price was working almost exclusively in the horror genre and teen film genres. Price's last film was Edward Scissorhands (1990), and the TV movie The Heart of Justice (1992) was his final screen appearance.

Price was a major influence on filmmaker Tim Burton, who idolized his screen persona as a child and led to the morbid adoration that was the subject of "Vincent." Burton later cast him as the kindly old inventor who creates the titular "Edward Scissorhands" (1990), a role that was cut down in size because of Price's worsening emphysema brought about by a lifetime of smoking cigarettes.
