He was educated at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge, and took his BA and MA in 1829, and in June 1829 he was returned as MP for Cambridge University.

  6. William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire, KG (14 December 1748 – 29 July 1811), was a British nobleman, aristocrat, and politician. He was the eldest son of William Cavendish, 4th Duke of Devonshire , by his wife, the heiress Lady Charlotte Boyle , suo jure Baroness Clifford, who brought in considerable money and estates to the Cavendish family.

William Cavendish, 7th Duke of Devonshire (27 April 1808-21 December 1891) was the Whig MP for Cambridge University from 1829 to 1831, for Malton in 1831, and for North Derbyshire from 1832 to 1834. The son of William Cavendish, he was known as a generous donor to his alma mater of Cambridge and cofounded the Royal Agricultural Society in 1839.
