18 de abr. de 2024 · William IV was the grand duke of Luxembourg (1905–12), the eldest son of grand duke Adolf of Nassau. Falling severely ill soon after his accession, he eventually on March 19, 1908, had his consort Maria Anna of Braganza named regent, or governor (Statthalterin).

Georg Nickolaus would have thus become the reigning Grand Duke of Luxembourg. In 1907, William IV, obtained passage of a law in Luxembourg confirming the exclusion of the Merenbergs from succession to the grand ducal throne.

21 de abr. de 2024 · On March 15, 1815, with the support of the powers gathered at the Congress of Vienna, William proclaimed himself King William I. He was also made grand duke of Luxembourg, and (to assuage French sensitivity by distancing the title from the now-defunct principality) the title 'Prince of Orange' was changed to 'Prince of Oranje'.

Personally opposed to parliamentary reform, he grudgingly accepted the epochal Reform Act of 1832, which reduced the power of the British crown and the landowning aristocracy over the government.
Hace 2 días · 1817 it was conceived as a stud farm by William I of Orange for the King and Grand Duke William I. The Belgian Revolution that broke out in 1830 put an end to that plan and the building remained unoccupied for some ten years.
