18 de abr. de 2024 · William IV was the grand duke of Luxembourg (1905–12), the eldest son of grand duke Adolf of Nassau. Falling severely ill soon after his accession, he eventually on March 19, 1908, had his consort Maria Anna of Braganza named regent, or governor (Statthalterin).

Georg Nickolaus would have thus become the reigning Grand Duke of Luxembourg. In 1907, William IV, obtained passage of a law in Luxembourg confirming the exclusion of the Merenbergs from succession to the grand ducal throne.

1 de may. de 2024 · William IV was Grand Duke of Luxembourg for a handful of years in the early 20th Century. He was born on April 22, 1852, at Biebrich Palace, in Wiesbaden, in the Duchy of Nassau. His father was Adolphe , then Duke of Nassau and later Grand Duke of Luxembourg; and his mother was Princess Adelheid-Marie of Anhalt-Dessau.
4 de may. de 2024 · Following Adolphe's death in 1905, he was succeeded by his son, William IV. William IV fathered six daughters and wanted to allow women to ascend to the throne and transmit dynastic rights. Therefore, on July 10, 1907, succession rules were modified to permit this.
