Major-General Sir William Ponsonby KCB (13 October 1772 – 18 June 1815) was an Anglo-Irish politician and British Army officer who served in the Peninsular War and was killed at the Battle of Waterloo.

William Brabazon Ponsonby, 1st Baron Ponsonby (of Imokilly), PC (Ire) (15 September 1744 – 5 November 1806) was a leading Irish Whig politician, being a member of the Irish House of Commons, and, after 1800, of the United Kingdom parliament.

6 de jun. de 2018 · The Brigade commander was Major General Sir William Ponsonby who was Wellington’s most experienced commander of heavy cavalry. The Brigade has been together for three weeks- the Royals joining the other two regiments on 27th May- and Sir William had done his best to train them up to the standard he expected.
Sir William Ponsonby (1772–1815) commanded a brigade of cavalry at Waterloo and led it in a charge against a French infantry column attacking the Allied line. He was killed when French cavalry counter-charged.
