Colonel William Smith Gill CB VD DL (16 February 1865 – 25 December 1957) was a Scottish Volunteer Force officer and paint manufacturer. He was the great-grandfather of Diana, Princess of Wales.
Colonel William Smith Gill (1865-1957) was the son of Alexander Ogston Gill and Barbara Smith Marr. [1] Aged 6 in 1871 he was one of five children at home in Caroline Place with his father and aunt. Also there three servants. [2] He married Ruth Littlejohn, daughter of David Littlejohn and Jane Crombie, in 1898. [3]

Biography. Lady Fermoy was born Ruth Sylvia Gill at Dalhebity House, Bieldside, Aberdeenshire, the daughter of Colonel William Smith Gill and his wife, Ruth ( née Littlejohn, daughter of David Littlejohn, DL ). [1] . She showed early promise as a pianist and studied under Alfred Cortot at the Paris Conservatoire in the 1920s. [2]
