Count Palatine Wolfgang of Zweibrücken was member of the Wittelsbach family of the Counts Palatine and Duke of Zweibrücken from 1532. With the support of his regent, his uncle Rupert , Wolfgang introduced the Reformation to Zweibrücken as early as 1537.
Wolfgang (26 September 1526 - 11 June 1569) was the Duke of Zweibrücken from 1532 until 1569. Wolfgang was born in Zweibrücken in 1526 as the only son of Louis II, Count Palatine of Zweibrücken. He was a son of Wolfgang, Count Palatine of Zweibrücken, who when he died in 1569, bequeathed the Palatine share of the Rear County of Sponheim to Charles. Charles chose Birkenfeld as his residence and in 1595, through the Treaty of Kastellaun with his joint ruler the Margrave of Baden , Edward Fortunatus , secured exclusive rule in the districts of Birkenfeld and Allenbach (until 1671).
