There are 12 World Heritage Sites in Argentina, and a further eight on the tentative list. The first site listed was the Los Glaciares National Park, at the 5th session of World Heritage Committee, held in Sydney, Australia, in October 1981. The most recent site listed was the ESMA Museum, in 2023.
Rule 13 of the Rules of Procedure of the General Assembly foresees that “the Secretariat shall ask all States Parties, at least three months prior to the opening of the General Assembly, whether they intend to stand for election to the World Heritage Committee” and that “ the list of candidates shall be finalized 48 hours before the opening of the General Assembly”.

As of 2023, Italy has 59 listed sites, making it the state party with the most World Heritage Sites, just above China (57). [3] [4] The first site in Italy, the Rock Drawings in Valcamonica, was listed at the 3rd Session of the World Heritage Committee, held in Cairo and Luxor, Egypt, in 1979. [5]
