Ze’ev Jabotinsky was a Zionist activist, orator, and writer who founded the Betar Movement. He was also a soldier who founded the Jewish Legion during World War I. Jabotinsky was born on October 17, 1880, as Vladimir into a middle-class Jewish family in the Russian city of Odessa.
Jabotinsky focused his efforts on assisting Jews to reach Palestine by all means — legal or illegal. Sensing that Jews of Eastern Europe were in great danger, he called, in 1936, for an “evacuation” of Eastern European Jews to Palestine to solve the Jewish problem.

Zeev (Vladimir) Jabotinsky was born on 12 Heshvan 5641 (17/10/1880) in Odessa, Ukraine, to Yona Ben Zvi and Hava (Zach), the youngest of three children. One year later his older brother, Meir, died and his father, a wealthy merchant, passed away when Zeev was only six years old.
