Lowering blood pressure can reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Spironolactone is also used to lessen the need for hospitalization for heart failure.
For oral dosage form (tablets): Adults—At first, 25 to 100 milligrams (mg) per day, taken in either single or divided doses. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed. However, the dose is usually not more than 100 mg per day. Children—Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.

Spironolactone is an aldosterone antagonist indicated for: The treatment of NYHA Class III-IV heart failure and reduced ejection fraction to increase survival, manage edema, and to reduce the need for hospitalization for heart failure ( 1.1 ). Use as an add-on therapy for the treatment of hypertension, to lower blood pressure.
