Hace 1 hora · Benannt wurde diese Linie nach dem englischen Naturforscher Alfred Russel Wallace, der während seiner Reisen zwischen 1854 und 1862 festgestellt hat, dass bestimmte asiatische Säugetiere wie Elefanten, Tiger, Tapire und Orang-Utans sehr wohl auf Borneo, Java und Bali vorkommen (oder zumindest in historischer Zeit noch vorkamen), nicht aber auf Sulawesi, den Molukken und den kleinen Sundainseln.
