They announced their engagement in February 14, 1880 and after courtship of a few months that might have gotten in the way of Roosevelt's studies at Harvard University, they married on his 22nd birthday, October 27, 1880. On February 14, 1884, aged 22, Alice died of Bright's disease two days after the birth of her daughter, also named Alice.
