Harold Stirling Vanderbilt (July 6, 1884 – July 4, 1970) Alva maneuvered Consuelo into marrying Charles Spencer-Churchill, 9th Duke of Marlborough, on November 6, 1895. The marriage was annulled much later, at the Duke's request and with Consuelo's assent, in May 1921.

7 de jul. de 2023 · The couple had three children: Consuelo, William Kissam Jr., and Harold Stirling. In 1895, Alva Vanderbilt divorced her husband on the grounds of adultery. The divorce decree granted her custody of her children, the right to remarry, and a large financial settlement.
Alva’s own wedding, her second, soon followed, when she married Oliver Hazard Perry Belmont in 1896. Unlike her first wedding, this one was national news, thanks to her mastery of public relations in the interim. She spent 12 happy years as Belmont’s wife, until he died in 1908.
She was married for a second time in 1896 to Oliver Hazard Perry Belmont, one of her ex-husband’s old friends. After his sudden death in 1908, she devoted her considerable wealth and energies to the suffrage cause, after hearing a lecture by Ida Husted Harper, one of the biographers of Susan B. Anthony.
