20 de oct. de 2019 · The Bagrationi dynasty reigned in Georgia from the Middle Ages until the early 19th century. This ancient royal family survives yet today. The Bagrationi (sometimes Hellenized as Bagratid) dynasty was the ruling dynasty of Georgia for over a millennium.

The Bagrationi family of Kartli (later Georgia) originated from here. Two brothers became eristavis in Kakheti and the last one in Kambechovani (Kiziki). The legend about the Bagrationi family being of Jewish descent reveals the tendencies of the Middle Ages authors to foreignize the ruling dynasty or aristocracy.
The Bagrationis know that their origin stems from the historical and geographical province of Speri (which is present-day Inspiri in Turkey). This southwestern province of the Kartli kingdom has been the subject of various border disputes between Georgia and Armenia for many centuries.
