Bathory es considerada una de los grupos de metal extremo más influyentes de todos los tiempos. La banda ayudó a crear el black metal junto a los ingleses Venom con sus tres primeros álbumes, y el viking metal con sus álbumes posteriores.

Bathory was a Swedish black metal band formed in Vällingby in March 1983. Named after Hungarian countess Elizabeth Báthory, they are considered pioneers of black metal (alongside Venom and Mercyful Fate) [3] [4] and Viking metal.

Bathory was one of the pioneers of the first wave of black metal and Viking metal. Formed in 1983 by Quorthon, Jonas Åkerlund, and Frederick Melander, the band didn't come up with a name until the recording of Scandinavian Metal Attack.
Bathory was an extreme metal band from Vällingby, Sweden founded on 16th March 1983, and named after the serial killer Countess Báthory from the Hungarian noble family.

Bathory, Burzum, Mayhem, Venom, Celtic Frost, Hellhammer y Mercyful Fate fueron las bandas más importantes de la primera ola del black metal.
