Zacznijmy od kilku dat i liczb dotyczących słynnego dzwonu: Obecny Big Ben jest w zasadzie kopią, ponieważ pierwszy dzwon… pękł w czasie testów dwa lata wcześniej. Big Ben painaa 13,7 tonnia ja sen vasaran paino on 200 kilogrammaa. Mitoiltaan Big Ben on 2,2 metriä korkea ja 2,7 metriä leveä. Ensimmäiseen kelloon tuli särö, kun sitä testattiin. Uudelleen valettu kello löi ensimmäisen tuntinsa 11. heinäkuuta 1859. Tornissa on myös neljä pienempää kelloa, jotka ilmoittavat neljännestunneista.
