21 de feb. de 2024 · Catherine de’ Medici (born April 13, 1519, Florence [Italy]—died January 5, 1589, Blois, France) was the queen consort of Henry II of France (reigned 1547–59) and subsequently regent of France (1560–74), who was one of the most influential personalities of the Catholic–Huguenot wars.
Last months and death Engraving of Catherine de' Medici. Henry hired Swiss troops to help him defend himself in Paris. The Parisians, however, claimed the right to defend the city themselves. On 12 May 1588, they set up barricades in the streets and refused to take orders from anyone except the Duke of Guise.
