Frederik IX (Danish: Christian Frederik Franz Michael Carl Valdemar Georg ; 11 March 1899 – 14 January 1972) was King of Denmark from 1947 to 1972. Born into the House of Glücksburg, Frederik was the elder son of King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine of Denmark.
However, King Christian IX of Denmark was not born destined to be a king. King Christian IX was born a German prince, the sixth child and fourth son of Friedrich Wilhelm, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg- Glücksburg and Princess Louise Caroline of Hesse-Kassel, on April 8, 1818, at Gottorp Castle near the town of Schleswig in the Duchy of Schleswig, now in Germany.

Kong Christian 9.'s ligtog på Christiansborg Slotsplads den 16. februar 1906. Dronning Louise døde 81 år gammel den 29. september 1898 på Bernstorff Slot. Christian 9. overlevede sin hustru med syv år og døde 87 år gammel den 29. januar 1906 i sit residenspalæ, Christian IX's Palæ på Amalienborg, efter en regeringstid på over 42 år.
