Personal life. Churchill married twice. In 1938, she married actor Barry K. Barnes. Barnes died on 12 January 1965, and she married actor Mervyn Johns, on 4 December 1976 in Hillingdon, London. In December 1932, Diana married John Milner Bailey, son of Sir Abe Bailey, the South African gold-mining millionaire and long-standing friend of Winston.
She married John Bailey in 1932, but divorced him only three years later. She very quickly married Duncan Sandys, in September 1935, a Conservative MP who became one of Churchill’s few loyal supporters in the ‘wilderness years’ of the late 1930s.
