In the 12th cent. a rediscovery of Greek and Roman literature occurred across Europe that eventually led to the development of the humanist movement in the 14th cent.
14 de may. de 2024 · I find Stephen Bowd's review of The Renaissance in Italy: A Social and Cultural History of the Rinascimento both thoughtful and generous. Although at times it may stretch a bit to connect the book's arguments to broader issues or other major scholarly works, such attempts to rethink the period and its implications are precisely the goal of the work and my broader scholarly project over the years.
Hace 6 días · The Renaissance was a fervent period of European cultural, artistic, political and economic “rebirth” following the Middle Ages. Generally described as taking place from the 14th century to the 17th century, the Renaissance promoted the rediscovery of classical philosophy, literature and art.
Reading currently M. Weisner-Hanks' Early Modern Europe 1450-1789 and Bauer's history series before, so I'm wondering the above question. What did trigger it? The Magna Carta and political reforms in the HRE and Italy or something else? Somehow it feels too sudden for me the interest in greek texts and humanism in such a short time.
