Franz Bonaventura Adalbert Maria Herzog von Bayern (born 14 July 1933), commonly known by the courtesy title Duke of Bavaria, is the head of the House of Wittelsbach, the former ruling family of the Kingdom of Bavaria. His great-grandfather King Ludwig III was the last ruling monarch of Bavaria, being deposed in 1918.

7 de ago. de 2023 · As Franz, Duke of Bavaria has never fathered children, he will be succeeded by his brother, Prince Max of Bavaria, 86. Prince Max has five daughters but no sons and so, owing to the rules of male-preference primogeniture, the title will then pass to their cousin Prince Luitpold and his descendants, including Prince Ludwig and any future male heirs.

They were called Duchy of Lower Bavaria, Duchy of Upper Bavaria, Duchy of Bavaria-Landshut, Duchy of Bavaria-Straubing, Duchy of Bavaria-Munich, Duchy of Bavaria-Ingolstadt and Duchy of Bavaria-Dachau.
Since 1996 Duke Franz of Bavaria's Wittelsbach has been head of the house. The name Wittelsbach remains closely associated with Bavaria since the end of the monarchy. In multimedia interviews, Prince Leopold, Prince Luitpold or Duke Franz give a good overview of their lives and their every day tasks.
