Mr Fox is an anthropomorphic, tricky, and clever fox who lives underground beside a tree with his wife and four children. To feed his family, he makes nightly visits to local farms owned by three cruel, rude, wicked and dim-witted farmers named Boggis, Bunce, and Bean, stealing poultry from each.

Fed up with feeling poor, Mr. Fox investigates a real estate advertisement for a tree residence. Upon meeting the broker Weasel and the opossum superintendent Kylie, Mr. Fox also observes that the tree is located near the triple farms of Walter Boggis, Nathaniel Bunce and Franklin Bean.
Angered by the raids, the farmers decide to kill Mr. Fox. They camp out near his home, and when Mr. Fox emerges, they open fire but only shoot off his tail. After demolishing the site of the tree while attempting to dig Mr. Fox out, they discover the Foxes have dug an escape tunnel.
