The Federal Convention, also known as the Federal Assembly (German: Bundesversammlung), is, together with the Joint Committee, one of two non-standing constitutional bodies in the federal institutional system of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The Federal Convention is the largest parliamentary convention in the Federal Republic of Germany. Its sole function is to elect the Federal President. The Convention usually assembles only every five years in the Reichstag Building, the exception being if the Federal President’s term of office ends prematurely.
The Federal Convention (or Confederate Diet German: Bundesversammlung or Bundestag) was the only general joint institution of the German Confederation (German: Deutscher Bund) from 1815 until 1848, and from 1851 until 1866.

The Federal Convention meets thirty days before his or her term of office ends, at the latest, to elect the Federal President. Any member of the Federal Convention may propose candidates for the presidential election.
The Bundesversammlung, or Federal Convention, is a special federal body in Germany. It is made up of all of the members of the Bundestag , plus an equal number of delegates elected by the parliaments of the Länder .
